A Step-by-Step Guide: How to Become an Online Notary in Oklahoma

Ready to start your online notary journey in Oklahoma?
At Online Notary Center, we make it simple to become a Remote Online Notary (RON) — allowing you to notarize documents securely from anywhere in the U.S. You can connect with new signers or bring your own clients, all while earning money from the comfort of your home.

Follow these steps to meet Oklahoma’s state requirements and start performing online notarizations.

1. Hold a Traditional Notarial Commission

Before performing online notarizations, you must first hold an active Oklahoma notary commission.
If you don’t have one yet, visit the Oklahoma Secretary of State’s website for instructions on applying.
Once commissioned, upload a copy of your notary commission to your Online Notary Center account.

2. Obtain Errors & Omissions (E&O) Insurance

E&O insurance protects you financially in the event of accidental errors or false claims.
The State of Oklahoma requires you to maintain a minimum $25,000 policy.
Most plans are affordable, typically costing between $15–$30 per year, and can be purchased from providers like the National Notary Association (NNA) or other reputable insurers.

Upload your policy certificate to your Online Notary Center profile to keep your account in good standing.

3. Purchase a Digital Certificate from IdenTrust

To securely seal and sign your notarized documents, you’ll need a digital certificate (digital signature).
Online Notary Center partners with IdenTrust to provide this service.
This certificate ensures each document is tamper-evident, meaning any changes after notarization are automatically detected.

Follow IdenTrust’s instructions here to purchase and activate your certificate.

4. Select Your Online Notary Center Plan

Choose the plan that fits your workflow and business goals.
Our platform includes everything you need — secure audio/video technology, journal, seal, and e-signature tools.

Available Plans:

  • Notary Professional Plan: $19.95/month

  • Notary Enterprise Plan: Custom pricing for teams and large organizations

View full details on our Pricing Page.

5. Apply for Remote Online Notarization (RON) Authorization

Next, submit a Remote Online Notarization Application with the Oklahoma Secretary of State.
The application fee is $25, payable directly through the SOS website.

When asked to describe your technology provider, you can use the following description:

Remote Technology Description:
Online Notary Center provides uninterrupted, continuous, high-quality audio-video communication between an electronic notary public and a principal. The audio-video stream uses a secure communication link that ensures only the parties to a notarial act and authorized persons are present. All communication is recorded and securely stored for 10 years. Online Notary Center also provides a password-protected electronic journal that records all electronic notarial acts completed on the platform.

Once your application is approved, you’ll receive written confirmation from the Secretary of State.

6. Start Performing Online Notarizations

After approval, you’re ready to begin notarizing documents online!
Through Online Notary Center, you can connect with clients anywhere in the United States using our secure, compliant, and user-friendly RON platform.
